Curtain of Kin, 2025
Locally foraged fallen Eucalypt branches and recycled copper
Exhibited in True North: From the Forest Floor at Grafton Regional Gallery, 1 March - 27 April 2025
Curated by Christine Wilcocks.

Woven from the fallen limbs of Eucalypt and reclaimed threads of Copper, Curtain of Kin is infused with the properties of the materials from which it is made. Eucalypt - resilient, purifying, protector of space - offers herself as guardian and healer. Whilst Copper - feminine and fecund, conductor of energy both actual and metaphoric - balances yang with yin, amplifying and fortifying this cleansing, connective and curative container.
Here, Copper also represents the blood in our bodies and the sap of the trees - transporting minerals and nutrients; cleansing, healing, binding. Eucalypt branches, stripped of their fleshy bark, depict a skeleton, a succession of bones - structural and formative; enduring. By stepping into this veil of blood and bone, the artist invites you to enter a space in which to connect with one’s elemental ancestry of wood and metal, vegetal and mineral, your earthen Kin.
