Touching the world otherwise, 2025

Site-specific installation for the NSW Visual Arts Fellowship (Emerging) at Artspace, Sydney

August 22 – October 19, 2025

Touching the world otherwise presents an ecology of material conversations,

contemplations,

collaborations,

confabulations;

a playscape of fancy and folly;

a fugitive cartography - mapping not what is, but what trembles on the edge of becoming.

These materials - rigid and flexible, translucent and opaque, clear and colourific, planar and undulating - mimic the likes of glass, perspex, silicon, resin. Yet they yearn to melt and merge back into the earth with rapidity and ease, leaving no detrimental trace.

This installation speaks to plural and embodied ways of knowing; to elemental entanglements and fugitivities; to the enigmatic intelligence of the more-than-human world.

Water, oxygen, gelatin, vegetable glycerin, vinegar, clove oil, eucalyptus oil, alum, soda ash, beetroot, red cabbage, turmeric, wattle flowers, slippery jack mushrooms, beeswax, tree sap (pine and eucalypt varieties), shellac, raw sheep wool, dried agapanthus stalks, wood dust, magnesium oxide, magnesium chloride, foraged earth pigment, recycled electrical conduit, recycled copper, copper rivets.
